關於此標本
望進前方晶面，晶體便展開成一道階梯：灰紫色的層次逐級後退地疊起，幻影之後又是幻影，每一層都曾是蒙上塵屑、隨後被下一層生長掩埋的晶面。外殼保持著淡淡的冰藍，在左側的立方體上幾乎白得像霜。奶油色的方解石板狀晶體沿頂緣與右緣立成層疊的扇形，接縫處還坐著幾點深色的金屬光澤細粒。
幻影的形成，是生長暫停、一層外來物質落在晶面上，之後螢石又在其上繼續生長；被埋住的輪廓便以早期晶體的幽影留存下來。這裡的過程重複了許多次，因此內部讀來像階梯，而非單一的內含立方體。螢石是 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，八面體解理完全，並可能對紫外光有所反應——不過反應的強弱因晶體而異。
