關於此標本
銀色的楔形晶體在此層層相疊，宛如一落滑開的硬幣，每一枚毒砂晶體都是帶著鏡面與斜切邊的扁平菱面體。鏽化站穩腳步之處，金屬轉為金色與孔雀色；未曾鏽化之處，晶面亮得足以把整個房間映回給你。無色的石英晶片自頂部的縫隙間推出，左上角則綴著淡色的板狀晶體。
毒砂是鐵砷硫化物 FeAsS，最常見的砷礦物，也是許多金礦石難以處理的原因。它楔形與矛頭般的輪廓來自單斜對稱與頻繁的雙晶，莫氏硬度 5.5 至 6，稜邊因此得以保持銳利。砷被鎖在晶體結構之中，這件標本可以安心陳列，但取放之後請洗手，並且切勿對它加熱。明亮的晶面也會隨時間鏽化，您在這裡看到的色彩有一半正是由此而來。
6.6 × 4.1 × 3.3 cm，重 100 g，小巧得足以收進抽屜，又有足夠的分量守住一個陳列位置。這些圖片中的標本，就是將會寄達的那一件。
