關於此標本
這件馬達加斯加天青石自晶洞中切出、修成心形，外壁保留為一層拋光的淡灰藍色殼，整個敞開面則全數讓給晶體。最大的一枚略偏中央——塊狀、水藍色，平頂的晶端約莫一片指甲寬——數十枚較小的晶體環繞其側，顏色由無色一路過渡到柔和的矢車菊藍。
天青石是硫酸鍶，SrSO4：斜方晶系，莫氏硬度 3–3.5，軟到拋光的外緣會被更硬的石頭刮傷，晶面也絕不該接觸帶砂粒的布。馬達加斯加的天青石生長於沉積岩的空洞之中，那份藍屬於晶體本身，而非任何處理的結果。長時間直曬會使顏色變淡，請給它一個避光的層架。
尺寸 15.2 × 7.6 × 10.2 cm，重 1,565 g——剛過 1.5 kg，盈滿一掌，照片中以手持方式襯著素灰背景拍攝，不附底座。照片裡的這顆心，就是會寄到您手上的那一顆。
