關於此標本
一枚深靛藍色立方體主導著這件瑤崗仙小標本——一塊邊長足有一公分半的方正螢石，正面呈淺淺的階梯狀層層退進，並被一片後來長在其上的白色石英打斷。左側半埋著第二枚顏色較淺的淡紫色立方體。其餘部分是一層細小而具玻璃光澤的石英晶體，晶體之間的凹陷處堆著深綠色綠泥石。
螢石的顏色與一般意義上的雜質關係不大：它來自 CaF2 晶格中的缺陷，本該由氟離子佔據的位置上坐著一個電子，吸收光線後留下藍紫色。缺陷密集，便得到此處所見墨黑般深沉的晶角；缺陷稀疏，便得到較小晶體那樣的淡紫色。莫氏硬度 4，四個方向完全解理，拿取螢石時應托住母岩，而非握住立方體。
標本尺寸 4.1 × 3.8 × 2.0 cm，重 30 g，圖中以手持方式呈現，未配底座。所有照片均拍攝自這件標本本身，取景自陳列面。
