關於此標本
兩枚麥稈金色的方解石晶體坐落在一塊長條的赭色母岩板上，各自壓扁成藏家一眼認得的蝴蝶雙晶楔形。下方較大的那枚邊緣玻璃般清透，晶心被鏽色的鐵染弄得混濁；上方的一枚較小、較潔淨，傾斜的方向相反，兩者因此在岩板上取得平衡。
這類雙晶生成於兩個方解石個體共用一個晶格面、彼此以鏡像方式生長之時，扁平如翼的輪廓正由此而來。湖南的碳酸鹽岩容礦體更以硫化物聞名，能夠帶著完好無損的方解石出土的母岩板，值得留在手上——莫氏硬度 3，一記方向不對的碰撞，就會把晶體乾淨俐落地劈成兩半。
岩板長 15.7 × 7.1 × 3.3 cm，重 240 g，背面夠平，可以直立倚在層架上。不附底座；照片記錄的正是這一塊岩板，別無其他。
