乳白色的石英晶尖肩並肩擠滿這塊瑤崗仙小板，晶面上散落著深金色的黃鐵礦斑點，多數不超過針頭大小，且大多聚集在晶體端面最為尖銳的中央與右側。迎光看去，石英轉為半透明——是柔和的磨砂白，而非水般清透。
湖南瑤崗仙最先出名的是螢石與黑鎢礦，但襯滿晶洞、承載礦石礦物的卻是石英。黃鐵礦（FeS2）撒落在已然長成的石英晶面上，記錄的是石英停止生長之後、一波含硫化物流體的晚期到來：斑點是坐在晶體之上，而非包在晶體之中。石英莫氏硬度 7，不需特別照料；黃鐵礦才是較軟的一半，並且不喜歡潮濕的存放環境。
晶簇尺寸為 5.3 × 4.1 × 2.5 cm，重 70 g——單手掌握恰到好處，背面平整的斷口讓它無需底座即可直立。此處每一張照片都拍自這一件，別無其他。
