關於此標本
立方體之中還有立方體的鬼影——這件直立的瑤崗仙拇指標本，故事全在於此。紫色螢石長成緊密的貫穿雙晶集合，每一顆晶體都帶著幻影：早期生長留下的方形輪廓懸在玻璃般的晶體之中，像梯田一樣層層向內。顏色自底部的淡丁香紫，一路加深到右上方濃郁的葡萄紫，中央有一個晶面敞開成石板藍色的窗。
幻影的形成，是生長停頓得夠久，讓一層雜質薄膜沉落在晶面上，之後生長恢復，把那個表面封進晶體內部。螢石把這種中斷記錄得格外清楚，因為鬼影保留了母晶平直晶面的幾何形狀。螢石成分為 CaF2，莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面體解理——請與較硬的標本分開存放。
標本尺寸 5.8 × 3.6 × 2.0 cm，重 50 g，以可移除黏土固定在照片中的透明壓克力座上。該座台隨件附上，照片裡的石頭就是寄出的石頭。
