關於此標本
半打細長的石英晶柱自深色結殼的基座呈扇形展開，柱身乳白，到了晶尖則轉為玻璃般清透。柱側佈滿層層疊起的生長階，每一層都比它下面的一層略微偏轉，這正是內蒙古這種晶形贏得「螺旋」之名的原因。橄欖黑色的細點灑在晶柱上，並在與母岩交會之處增厚成一層深色的殼。
石英是二氧化矽 SiO2，莫氏硬度 7——硬到讓這麼纖細的晶體遠比外表看起來更耐得住拿取。所謂的扭轉其實是堆疊造成的錯覺：一層層生長層依次略作旋轉鋪陳，於是晶柱看似向上盤旋，而晶格本身從未彎曲過。晶尖全數完好的簇體，正是值得耐心等待的那一種。
晶簇尺寸 5.1 × 3.6 × 3.6 cm，重 31 g。隨附照片中所見的透明壓克力方座，可把晶體托離架面。照片中的標本就是出貨的那一件。
