Über diese Stufe
Schieferblaue Fluorit-Würfel treppen über das rechte Drittel dieser langen Platte aus Yaogangxian. Ihre Kanten sind nicht sauber geschnitten: Jede Fläche ist ein Stapel leicht versetzter Wachstumsstufen, und wo zwei Würfel aneinanderstoßen, laufen die Terrassen wie Wasserlinien ineinander. Die größten Kristalle tragen einen feinen inneren Schleier, die kleineren zur Mitte hin sind blasser, beinahe farblos. Eine olivcremefarbene Dolomit-Druse bedeckt den Rest, und über die Naht ziehen rotbraune tafelige Blättchen.
Yaogangxian in Hunan ist eine Wolframgrube, die sich seit Langem doppelt bezahlt macht, das zweite Mal über ihre Mineralstufen, und ihre Blautöne sind seltener als ihre Grün- und Violetttöne. Fluorit ist CaF2; seine Farbe verdankt er Gitterdefekten und dem Einbau von Spurenelementen, nicht einem Farbstoff. Mohshärte 4, vollkommen spaltbar nach vier Richtungen: Ein Stoß auf eine freiliegende Ecke löst eine saubere Lamelle ab – heben Sie das Stück daher an der Matrix an, nie an einem Kristall.
Die Platte misst 14,0 × 5,8 × 4,3 cm und wiegt 560 g. Sie wird ungesockelt auf offener Hand liegend gezeigt; abgebildet ist ausschließlich diese eine Platte, kein stellvertretendes Musterstück.
