Über diese Stufe
Yaogangxian, Hunan, quartz with fluorite at 6.4 cm and 167 g; a small cabinet piece. A stout, clear quartz crystal with a complete termination the supplier notes and a purple fluorite cube at its base beside dark mica.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Yaogangxian Mine in Yizhang County is China's most famous mineral locality, a tungsten mine that has produced fine fluorite, arsenopyrite, quartz and cassiterite for three decades.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6.1 × 4 × 6.4 cm (2.40 × 1.57 × 2.52 in) and 167 g (5.9 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
