Über diese Stufe
Über eine handgroße, sandfarbene Platte aus zuckriger Druse liegen auberginenviolette Fluorit-Würfel verstreut wie Spielsteine, die jemand auf dem Brett zurückgelassen hat. Eine dichte Kolonie kleiner, blass fliederfarbener Würfel drängt sich an der linken Kante; vier oder fünf viel dunklere Kristalle ziehen über das offene Feld, der größte davon an den Schultern beinahe schwarz. Ihre Flächen sind gestuft und angeätzt statt spiegelglatt und brechen das Licht in feine Terrassen.
Die Ätzung kam nach den Kristallen: Späte saure Lösungen nagten an den Würfelflächen, und danach wuchs eine cremefarbene Drusendecke über die Platte und leckte an mehreren Würfeln hoch, bis sie halb begraben waren. Diese Abfolge ist hier so lesbar, wie sie es an einem aufgeräumteren Stück selten ist, und das macht eine geätzte Guizhou-Platte lohnender zu entziffern als eine glasigere. Fluorit ist CaF2, Mohshärte 4, und trennt sich leicht entlang seiner oktaedrischen Spaltbarkeit.
Für ein Handstück ist die Platte großzügig bemessen: 12,2 × 8,9 × 4,3 cm bei 575 g; sie liegt flach zur Präsentation, ein Ständer gehört nicht dazu. Jedes Bild zeigt diese Platte und nur diese Platte.
