Über diese Stufe
Olivgrüne Granate besetzen eine Platte aus anthrazitgrauem Gestein; die größten drängen sich am rechten Rand zu einem lockeren Knäuel, während einzelne über die Fläche auslaufen. Jeder ist ein scharfes Rhombendodekaeder, glasglänzend überall dort, wo Licht auf eine Facette trifft, begleitet von einigen dunkel blaugrünen Blättern und kleinen farblosen Kristallen. Die Platte ist ockerfarben gerandet, wo das Gestein verwittert ist.
Andradit aus Guangxi stammt aus kontaktmetamorphem Skarn, wo zirkulierende Lösungen Kalkstein zu einem Calcium-Eisen-Silikat umgebaut haben. Dieses Eisen ist es, das die Farbe Richtung Oliv und Grasgrün schiebt. Mit Mohshärte 6,5–7,5 und ohne Spaltbarkeit gehört Granat zu den robusteren Arten im Regal; behutsam behandelt werden will hier die mürbe dunkle Matrix, nicht der Kristall.
Die Platte misst 11,4 × 2,8 × 7,1 cm und wiegt 195 g – dünn genug, um sie aufrecht in eine Vitrine zu lehnen. Jede Aufnahme auf dieser Seite wurde von genau dieser Platte gemacht.
