Über diese Stufe
Yunnan heart calcite at 105 g; a small cabinet piece with a shape that speaks for itself.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 7.1 × 6.6 × 3.8 cm (2.80 × 2.60 × 1.50 in) and 105 g (3.7 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
