Über diese Stufe
Honig läuft über die oberen Kanten dieses Calcits aus Daye und geht nach unten hin in Rauch über. Der Körper ist ein einzelnes blockiges Rhomboeder, transparent genug, um den Schatten einer Fingerkuppe hindurch zu erkennen, mit einer breiten Oberseite, die von einer feinen Kreuzschraffur aus Wachstumslinien geätzt ist. Eine vordere Kante ist hell und glasig ausgefallen – eine schmale natürliche Abschrägung ohne jede Schleifarbeit, über die ganze Breite des Kristalls.
Der Bezirk Daye in Hubei ist Eisen- und Kupferland, und seine Calcite fallen häufig so aus wie dieser: warme eisenstichige Töne über transparentem Kristall, scharfe Geometrie und eine Oberfläche, die ihr eigenes Wachstum in Streifen festhält. Chemisch ist es CaCO3, trigonal, Mohs 3. Die rhomboedrische Spaltbarkeit verläuft parallel zu jenen hellen Kanten, ein Stoß an der falschen Stelle nimmt also eine Scheibe mit und nicht bloß eine Ecke.
