Über diese Stufe
An der Kante seiner Matrix aufsitzend und frei über den Rand auskragend, ist der Calcit dieses Stücks aus Zhejiang ein einzelner gedrungener Kristall in blassem Strohgelb – durchscheinend, mit breiten Flächen, über die schwache Wachstumslinien ziehen, und mit einem weichen glasigen Schimmer statt eines Spiegelglanzes. Der Trägerblock darunter ist blass grauweiß, hellbraun gefleckt und entlang seiner Oberkante mit kleinen farblosen Drusenkristallen besetzt.
Calcit wächst in mehr Formen als fast jedes andere Mineral – Rhomboeder, Skalenoeder, Blätter, Nagelkopfformen –, und ein großer Kristall, der noch auf seiner eigenen Matrix sitzt, ist die Variante, die Sammler behalten. Die Chemie ist schlicht CaCO3; die Folgen sind es nicht. Bei Mohshärte 3 hinterlässt eine Stahlnadel eine Spur, das Mineral spaltet sauber nach drei Richtungen und braust in Haushaltssäure auf – ein trockener Pinsel ist deshalb die ganze Pflege.
Die Stufe misst 10,2 x 10,2 x 5,3 cm und wiegt 420 g; sie kommt auf der schlanken Metallhalterung und dem hellen Holzsockel, die hier zu sehen sind – jede Aufnahme stammt von diesem einen Stück.
