Über diese Stufe
Ein blass pistaziengrüner Prehnit-Turm steigt hier gut vier Zentimeter frei über seine Basis, aufgebaut aus verwachsenen traubigen Lappen mit weichem, wachsartigem Schimmer und einer Transluzenz, die Licht ein Stück weit eindringen lässt, bevor es endet. Er steht auf einer Masse aus mattweißem Quarz, gesprenkelt mit pechschwarzen Kristallen, und der Farbkontrast – Grün, Weiß, Schwarz – leistet den größten Teil der Arbeit ganz ohne Hilfe einer Vitrine.
Prehnit ist ein Calcium-Aluminium-Silikat, das fast nie als einzelner freier Kristall wächst. Stattdessen strahlen Tausende winziger Fasern gemeinsam nach außen, und die gerundete Oberfläche, die Sie betrachten, sind die Enden all dieser Fasern, die gleichzeitig ankommen. Mit Mohs 6 bis 6,5 ist er zäher, als sein sanftes Grün vermuten lässt; anfassen sollten Sie beim Anheben dennoch den Quarz darunter.
Bei 8,2 cm Höhe auf einer Standfläche von 6,2 × 4,8 cm und 207 g Gewicht steht die Stufe ohne Hilfe aufrecht und braucht keinen Ständer. Alles, was auf den Bildern zu sehen ist, ist dieses Exemplar.
