Über diese Stufe
Ein schmales Kassiterit-Blatt liegt schräg über der Fläche des größten Quarzkristalls dieser Yaogangxian-Stufe, schwarz gegen wasserklar, ein zweites, schwereres klemmt in der Spalte dahinter. Die Quarzspitzen sind farblos und glasig, mehrere von ihnen mit ausgebildetem Kopf und Schulter an Schulter stehend, und ein einzelner messingfarbener Pyritkristall sitzt tief an der linken Kante.
Kassiterit (SnO2) ist das wichtigste Zinnerz, und Blätter wie diese – fast schwarz, diamantglänzend, für ihre Größe überraschend schwer – sind seine typische Erscheinungsform in den Quarzgängen im Süden Hunans. Hier ist der Quarz um sie herum und über sie hinweg gewachsen und hat ein Blatt flach gegen eine Prismenfläche versiegelt. Quarz steht bei Mohs 7, Kassiterit bei 6–7, das Stück verträgt also einiges; der kleine Pyrit ist das Weichste daran und wird beim Reiben als Erstes stumpf.
Kompakt mit 5,6 × 5,1 × 5,1 cm und 90 g, kommt die Stufe unter der Lampe aus fast jeder Richtung gut zur Geltung. Fotografiert in der Hand – und das Stück auf diesen Fotos ist das angebotene.
