Über diese Stufe
Bernsteingoldene Barytkristalle liegen über eine blass seegrüne Fluoritplatte verstreut wie Perlen, die auf Milchglas gefallen sind. Die Baryte sind tafelig und glasig, der größte knapp einen Zentimeter groß, jeder ein warmes Honigorange gegen das kühle Grün; dazwischen zieht sich ein funkelnder Belag farbloser Mikrokristalle, der das Licht in Schwaden auffängt. Im Fluorit überdauern die Würfelkanten als weiche geometrische Schatten, mit zarter violetter Zonierung am linken und am unteren Rand.
Die Abfolge ist lesbar: zuerst der Fluorit als Platte aus Würfel auf Würfel, dann der Baryt, der darauf auskristallisierte, als sich die Lösungen änderten. Baryt ist BaSO4, nur Mohs 3 bis 3,5 und für ein helles Mineral überraschend schwer, während der Fluorit darunter CaF2 mit Mohs 4 und vollkommener oktaedrischer Spaltbarkeit ist. Nichts auf dieser Platte ist poliert, beschichtet oder ergänzt – so kam sie aus dem Berg.
Die Platte misst 7,1 × 6,1 × 2,3 cm bei 164 g, flach genug, um aufrecht zu stehen oder unter einer Lampe zu liegen. Diese Aufnahmen zeigen genau diese Platte, Baryt für Baryt.
