Über diese Stufe
Bernstein dort, wo die oberen Kanten das Licht fangen, olivbraun durch die untere Hälfte: Ein einzelner Scheelit-Oktaeder steht mit der Spitze nach unten vor einem kleinen Büschel farblosen Quarzes. Der Glanz ist eher fettig als glasig, und die Flächen tragen eine geätzte, grubige Textur, die das Glanzlicht streut, statt es geschlossen zurückzugeben. Der Quarz dahinter ist weiß und zurückhaltend, Hintergrund statt Konkurrenz.
Scheelit ist Calciumwolframat, CaWO4, und kristallisiert tetragonal – was als Oktaeder gelesen wird, ist in Wahrheit eine Doppelpyramide, und genau diese Beinahe-Symmetrie ist es, was in der Hand befriedigt. Xuebaoding oberhalb von Pingwu in Sichuan ist die klassische chinesische Fundstelle der Art, und ihre Kristalle bewegen sich in eben diesem Bereich von Bernstein bis Braun. Rechnen Sie damit, dass sich das Stück schwerer anfühlt, als seine Größe vermuten lässt; das macht das Wolfram. Mohshärte 4,5 bis 5, also leicht zu verkratzen, und unter kurzwelligem Ultraviolett leuchtet Scheelit in der Regel blauweiß.
Der Kristall misst 4,6 x 3,0 x 3,6 cm und wiegt 65 g auf seinem klaren Acrylwürfel. Der abgebildete Oktaeder ist der unter diesem Angebot reservierte.
