Sobre este espécimen
A contraluz, esta calcita se vuelve ahumada: un solo cristal macizo, pardo grisáceo, atravesado por manchas blancas y turbias y por finos hilos rojo herrumbre que parecen suspendidos en mitad de la piedra. Las aristas superiores biseladas corren brillantes como el vidrio en líneas largas y rectas mientras el interior permanece suave y difuso, de modo que la pieza parece sólida y brumosa a la vez.
Anhui da calcita en cristales individuales, pesados y geométricos como este, y no en delicados ramilletes. Los destellos del interior no son fracturas sino exfoliación: el carbonato de calcio, CaCO3, se separa perfectamente en tres direcciones, y los planos incipientes dentro del cristal actúan como pequeños espejos internos. Con dureza Mohs 3 se puede marcar con una moneda de cobre, y se corroe al contacto con un ácido: mantenga bien alejados el vinagre, los desincrustantes y los limpiadores domésticos.
