Sobre este espécimen
La pátina ha convertido esta pequeña estibina de Hunan en algo más parecido a una pluma de faisán que a un sulfuro: índigo profundo, violeta y bronce se deslizan por las caras estriadas de la hoja a medida que se gira la pieza. Una costra de microcristales verde oliva pálido se adhiere al tercio superior y a lo largo de un flanco, suavizando el metal con un borde mate y musgoso, y cerca de la parte alta se abre una cavidad estrecha entre las hojas.
La estibina, Sb2S3, crece en estos prismas profundamente acanalados porque su estructura está construida a partir de cadenas de antimonio y azufre paralelas al eje mayor: las estrías son esas cadenas hechas visibles. Es además uno de los minerales más blandos que un coleccionista llegará a poner en un estante, Mohs 2, tan blando que la uña lo marca. Manténgala lejos de la luz intensa, levántela por la base y no la lave nunca: la película iridiscente es una capa superficial y frotarla se la lleva por completo.
