Jiangxi red quartz with chalcopyrite at 14 cm; a display plate with pale crystals on a dark ground.
Hematoid quartz is coloured by hematite inclusions, giving it a warm red-to-orange body colour that intensifies in strong light.
Chalcopyrite is the main ore of copper, forming brassy tetrahedral crystals that tarnish to iridescent blues and purples.
Jiangxi is China's tungsten province; its mines have yielded wolframite, scheelite and fluorite specimens of world standard for decades.
Dimensions place it in the large cabinet range, 14 × 10 × 5.5 cm (5.51 × 3.94 × 2.17 in) and 723 g (25.5 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
