Una columna de cuarzo escarchado se yergue como un pequeño pilar y, en su cima misma, un cristal de fluorita se posa a modo de remate: violeta intenso en el núcleo, que se desvanece hasta un vidrio transparente en el borde, con las caras escalonadas y levemente grabadas. Una lámina de calcita translúcida sobresale del hombro izquierdo, y motas de oro pálido se adhieren al costado de la columna.
Yaogangxian es conocida por apilar unas especies sobre otras, y encontrar tres de ellas en un orden vertical tan limpio en una pieza de este tamaño es poco habitual. La fluorita (CaF2) tiene dureza 4 en la escala de Mohs y exfolia perfectamente según el octaedro, de modo que un golpe en la corona es lo único que hay que evitar; el cuarzo que la sostiene tiene dureza 7. Observe que el violeta está zonado y no es uniforme: se concentra en el núcleo y se adelgaza hacia fuera conforme fue cambiando la química de la cavidad.
La pieza mide 5,5 cm de altura sobre una huella de 1,5 × 1,2 cm y pesa 27 g, fijada en vertical sobre la base de acrílico transparente que aparece en las fotografías. Lo que ve aquí es la pieza que llegará.
