Sobre este espécimen
Escarcha sobre herrumbre: agujas de yeso finas como cabellos se erizan sobre una costra marrón chocolate oscuro en dos pompones densos, con un ramillete más suelto derramándose entre ambos. Las agujas son incoloras y vítreas donde atrapan la luz, y adquieren un tono ámbar cálido donde reposan tendidas sobre la matriz; toda la superficie destella al menor giro de la mano.
El yeso (CaSO4·2H2O) está entre los minerales más blandos que un coleccionista llegará a tener —dureza 2 en la escala de Mohs, se marca con la uña— y los ramilletes aciculares como estos son su expresión más frágil. Crecieron hacia cavidades abiertas, con cristales finísimos irradiando desde un punto común hasta topar con la roca. Mantenga la pieza seca, ya que el yeso es ligeramente soluble, y retire el polvo con un soplo de aire o un pincel muy suave antes que con un paño, que arrancaría agujas por docenas.
El ejemplar mide 6,6 × 2,5 × 3,8 cm y pesa 50 g. Fotografiado en la mano y sin montar, exactamente como llegará.
