Sobre este espécimen
Apilados como un corto tramo de escaleras de vidrio, los cubos de esta fluorita de Yaogangxian ascienden desde una esquina violeta en la parte inferior derecha hasta unas caras tan cercanas al incoloro que toman su tono del gris que hay detrás. Las inclusiones oscuras de pirita están encerradas dentro del cristal, no posadas sobre él, y un velo pálido de color paja recorre el centro del apilamiento.
El color de la fluorita procede de defectos e impurezas traza en la red de CaF2, y puede encenderse y apagarse entre capas de crecimiento: por eso aquí el violeta queda confinado a un hombro mientras el resto del apilamiento permaneció transparente. Con dureza 4 en la escala de Mohs, sus aristas se dañan con facilidad; levántela por el bloque en lugar de pellizcar una esquina.
Pequeña y precisa, con 3,0 × 2,0 × 2,3 cm y 10 g, va fijada con masilla blanca sobre una base de acrílico transparente. Fotografiada sobre ese bloque, exactamente tal como llegará.
