Miel cuajada es lo más parecido al color de este cubo, y su interior es cualquier cosa menos simple: contornos fantasma cuadrados se apilan uno dentro de otro, cada uno una pausa del crecimiento congelada allí donde ocurrió. Un cubo más pequeño se abre paso por detrás de la cara principal, y ambos descansan contra una matriz desmenuzable de color blanco crema que empuja el dorado hacia delante.
La fluorita dorada sale del suelo chino con mucha menos frecuencia que los verdes y los morados de las minas del sur, y un cubo de Pekín con aristas tan definidas merece un lugar aparte dentro de un conjunto de fluoritas. La fluorita (CaF2) marca un 4 en la escala de Mohs y se exfolia por planos octaédricos, de modo que esas esquinas afiladas son lo primero en riesgo: levante el ejemplar por su matriz, nunca por el cristal.
Pequeño y de una densidad muy satisfactoria en la mano con sus 3,0 × 2,5 × 2,0 cm y 25 g, llega sobre el bloque de acrílico transparente que se ve aquí. Esas fotografías registran este cubo tal como le llegará.
