Sobre este espécimen
Cubos límpidos como el agua trepan por la cresta superior de esta placa de Xianghualing en una rampa escalonada y superpuesta; son decenas, y la mayoría no supera el centímetro de arista. Varios llevan una zona ámbar cálida en el centro, un bandeado de color depositado a medida que el cristal crecía, de modo que el grupo se lee transparente como el vidrio en la parte alta y de tono miel en la profundidad. Por debajo de los cristales, la matriz desciende hacia una roca gris oscura escarchada de drusa blanca.
Xianghualing, en Hunan, es tierra de estaño y wolframio, y su fluorita tiende a este hábito vítreo y de poco color, con aristas cúbicas nítidas, más que a los morados saturados por los que la provincia es más conocida. La fluorita (CaF2) se exfolia perfectamente según cuatro direcciones octaédricas, y por eso un golpe en una arista arranca una lasca triangular de un cubo como estos: transporte el ejemplar sujetándolo por la matriz, nunca por los cristales.
La pieza mide 7,6 × 3,8 × 5,1 cm y pesa 95 g, con un dorso de matriz sólido detrás de la cara cristalizada. No se suministra soporte; las fotografías reproducen esta placa en particular.
