Lame oro-oliva si incrociano e si reincrociano come un reticolo montato in fretta: cristalli tabulari di barite, ciascuno un pannello dorato e piatto bordato di luce viva, impilati in ogni direzione finché il gruppo si legge come un'unica massa compenetrata. Sopra e attraverso di essi corrono lame più pallide, quasi incolori con un tepore appena rosato, che catturano la luce sulle facce larghe mentre quelle dorate sembrano accendersi dall'interno.
La barite è BaSO4: rombica, appena da 3 a 3,5 nella scala di Mohs e sorprendentemente pesante per il volume. È il peso a tradirla appena la si solleva: 145 g in un gruppo che misura a stento 6,6 cm. Anche la tenerezza merita rispetto, perché i bordi sottili delle lame si scheggiano più facilmente di quanto la loro lucentezza vitrea lasci credere.
Il gruppo misura 6,6 × 5,1 × 3,3 cm, pesa 145 g e poggia su un piccolo blocco di acrilico trasparente. Ciò che vede fotografato su quel blocco è ciò che le verrà spedito.
