Yunnan golden transparent baryte at 7.8 cm and 160 g; a small cabinet piece. A dense cluster of pale golden-yellow baryte blades, transparent and glassy, packed in every direction with a grey base.
Baryte (barite) is barium sulfate: heavy for its size, soft, and prone to tabular or bladed crystals with a bright vitreous lustre.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
