Impilati come fiches da poker colte a metà mescolata, dischi di calcite color cuoio e miele si accatastano in una piccola torre verticale, ogni pila inclinata secondo un proprio angolo, così che l'insieme ruoti mentre lo sguardo lo risale. Rosette degli stessi cristalli lamellari gemmano dai fianchi. Le superfici sono setose più che vetrose, e i bordi delle lamine più sottili si accendono di calore quando la luce arriva da dietro.
I collezionisti chiamano questo abito «a paletta» o «a fiche da poker»: calcite distesa in piano, lamina su lamina, una forma dettata dalla chimica del fluido più che dalla simmetria del minerale stesso. I carbonati di Yaogangxian assumono questa forma abbastanza spesso, e la tinta cuoio segnala di solito un po' di ferro nel sistema. Con durezza Mohs 3 e sfaldatura romboedrica, i bordi delle lamine sono la parte vulnerabile: sollevi il pezzo dalla base, mai da un ventaglio sporgente.
