Yunnan aragonite with azurite at 417 g; a cabinet piece with a striking colour combination.
Aragonite is the orthorhombic form of calcium carbonate; it favours needle-like and pseudo-hexagonal twinned crystals over calcite's rhombs.
Azurite is copper carbonate in its deep-blue form; it often alters to malachite, so blue-and-green combinations are the natural pairing.
Yunnan is China's most mineralogically diverse province, source of the pyromorphite, azurite and blue aragonite that have become collector favourites.
By size it is cabinet, 10.4 × 10.2 × 3.4 cm (4.09 × 4.02 × 1.34 in) and 417 g (14.7 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Copper mineral: avoid dust, wash hands after handling. Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
