この標本について
Fujian calcite with fluorite and quartz at 7.5 cm and 115 g; a small cabinet piece with a three-mineral mix. A cluster of brown, bladed calcite crystals over white quartz, with a translucent green fluorite cube at the left and small quartz points around the edge.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Chinese fluorite has become a staple of modern collections for its sharp crystal faces, strong colour and a lustre that reads well from across the room. Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
By size it is small cabinet, 7.5 × 5 × 3.5 cm (2.95 × 1.97 × 1.38 in) and 115 g (4.1 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
