Inner Mongolia star calcite with candle quartz at 63 g; a small cabinet piece for the UV collector.
Quartz is the most collected mineral on earth for good reason: sharp hexagonal prisms, bright terminations and endless variation between localities.
Collectors chase calcite for form rather than colour: crisp crystal edges and a habit you can identify from across the room.
Inner Mongolia's Huanggang and Chifeng districts produce fluorite, calcite, garnet and rhodochrosite in a lustre and clarity that set the modern standard for Chinese carbonates.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 5.9 × 4.3 × 3.3 cm (2.32 × 1.69 × 1.30 in) and 63 g (2.2 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
