この標本について
蜂蜜色の束沸石が、この福建省産標本の上にふっくらとした束状・蝶ネクタイ状の集合となって積み重なっています。どの集合も平たい板状結晶の束で、両端が開くように広がっています。色は暖かく、板が厚いところは琥珀色、薄いところは淡くバタースコッチに近づきます。表面は硬いきらめきではなく、柔らかな真珠光沢をたたえています。その下では白い母岩に暗い緑黒色の微細な結晶が散らばり、右側には無色の水晶の錐面がいくつか肩を寄せています。
束沸石は沸石の一種で、含水のカルシウム・ナトリウムアルミノケイ酸塩です。火山岩の気孔の中で成長し、まさにこの束のような晶癖で知られています。両端が広がり、中ほどでくびれる結晶です。モース硬度3.5〜4ほどと軟らかく、結晶の骨格の中に水を抱えているため、直射日光や暖房器具のそばは避けてください。
標本の寸法は 5.3 × 5.6 × 4.4 cm、重量は 130 g。写真に写っている透明アクリル台に載せてお届けします。この台が束沸石をいちばんよい角度で正面に向けてくれます。お届けするのはこの個体そのものです。
