この標本について
この内モンゴル産のプレートでは、左寄りの高い位置に海緑色の蛍石キューブが一つ載っています。ガラスのような光沢と鋭い稜を持ち、内側には角ばった暗色の影が浮かんでいます。成長の途中でいったん形づくられた結晶が、そのまま透明な緑に包み込まれたものです。周囲の母岩はレモンイエローからオリーブ色の小さな球体で覆われ、下縁には無色に近い透明なキューブが三つ四つ、ほとんど色を持たないまま光を受けています。
ファントムは成長がひととき止まったことの記録です。結晶が育つ途中で母液に変化が起こり、別の鉱物の微粒子が降り積もったり、化学組成が移り変わったりします。その被膜の上から成長が再開すると、古い輪郭は内部に永久に閉じ込められます。蛍石（CaF2）はモース硬度4で四方向に完全な劈開があるため、棚が混み合うときは硬い標本と触れ合わないようにしてください。
寸法は4.6 × 3.5 × 2.9 cm、重量57 gです。画像で標本が立っているクリアアクリルのブロックを添えてお届けします。これらの写真は、ここでご紹介しているこのプレートそのものを撮影したものです。
