この標本について
根元は蜜色、先端は水のように澄んでいます。互いに組み合った方解石の結晶群が、黄鉄鉱の帯から後ろへ傾いて伸び、結晶面は明るく、光の集まるところでは内側が温かい琥珀色に染まります。下半分の見どころは黄鉄鉱です。小さな真鍮色の結晶の皮殻が台の全幅を走り、その一粒一粒が金属的な閃きを放っています。
先に生じた硫化物の上に後から方解石が育つ流れは、湖南省郴州の鉱床でよく見られる順序で、そのぶん標本としてきわめて読みやすくなっています。まず黄鉄鉱、続いてより低温の溶液から炭酸塩。この組み合わせからは二つの注意点が導かれます。方解石はモース硬度3、三方向に劈開し、弱い酸にも溶けますので、酢も超音波洗浄も禁物です。黄鉄鉱は湿気を嫌いますので、乾いた場所に置いてください。
