Over dit exemplaar
Yunxiao, Fujian, quartz floater with garnet and zeolites at 78 g; a small cabinet piece with more species than most.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Garnet crystallises as dodecahedra and trapezohedra, geometry that shows cleanly on well-formed crystals. Apophyllite's water-clear to pale green pyramids and pearly cleavage faces make the species unusually photogenic.
Yunxiao County in southern Fujian is a modern classic for Fanta-orange spessartine on smoky quartz and feldspar, mined from granite pegmatite pockets.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6.4 × 5 × 3.3 cm (2.52 × 1.97 × 1.30 in) and 78 g (2.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
