Over dit exemplaar
Calcietbladen niet dikker dan een vingernagel overlappen in rozetten over dit hele vlak, wit met de flauwste warme blos waar zij zich verdringen. Elke bloem is opgebouwd uit vlakke, plaatvormige kristallen die vanuit één punt uitwaaieren, en die waaiers stapelen zich op hun beurt tot lage ruggen, zodat het oppervlak louter randen en kleine schaduwen is. Bovenaan, waar het calciet dunner wordt, schemert een grijze glasachtige kern door.
De plaatvormige, bloemachtige habitus ontstaat doordat calciet snel en vlak groeit in plaats van langzaam tot rhomboëders — dezelfde soort die IJslands spaat oplevert, in een volstrekt andere jas. CaCO3, hardheid 3, volmaakte splijting in drie richtingen: de bladranden zijn hier het kwetsbare deel, en een zacht droog kwastje is het enige reinigingsgereedschap dat dit stuk ooit zou moeten zien.
8,6 × 2,8 × 7,4 cm en 150 g, stabiel op zijn onderrand en aangeboden zonder standaard. De beelden hierboven leggen deze cluster vast en niets anders.
