Over dit exemplaar
Honderden kleine kwartskristallen stralen hier vanuit één gedeelde kern naar buiten, zo dicht opeengepakt dat de massa zich afrondt tot een bol die naar alle kanten punten uitsteekt. Elke top is scherp en glasachtig; ertussen schijnt het inwendige koeler grijs door, zodat het stuk bleek en berijpt oogt langs de rand en beschaduwd naar het midden toe. Het staat rechtop gemonteerd op een helder acrylblok.
Aggregaten als dit beginnen bij één kiempunt in een open holte: de kristallen groeien naar buiten, strijden om ruimte en eindigen uitgespreid tot een halve bol of een hele, afhankelijk van hoeveel van de holte hun gegund was. Kwarts (SiO2) staat op Mohs 7 en is chemisch koppig, dus het materiaal zelf is duurzaam; de afzonderlijke punten zijn echter naaldfijn en breken af zodra het stuk over een hard oppervlak rolt. Til het aan de voet op.
