Over dit exemplaar
Eén zuil steekt vrij boven de groep uit en spiegelt als gepolijst staal; haar vlakken zijn helder genoeg om de kamer naar u terug te kaatsen. De massa eronder blijft veel donkerder: een bundel evenwijdige stibnietvezels die verticaal loopt en hier en daar bestoven is met bleek roomkleurige druse, opgekropen vanaf de voet.
Hunan is de klassieke bron van fijne stibnietkristallen, en antimoonsulfide, Sb2S3, hoort bij de zachtste mineralen die een verzamelaar in huis haalt: Mohs 2, zacht genoeg om met een vingernagel een spoor achter te laten. Die heldere vlakken zijn volmaakte splijtvlakken, en precies daarom spiegelen ze zo goed en beschadigen ze zo gemakkelijk. Houd het stuk bij de voet vast, houd het uit direct zonlicht, en de glans overleeft decennia op een plank.
Het stuk meet 5,6 × 4,8 × 3,3 cm en weegt 86 g, met kit vastgezet op de getoonde doorzichtige acrylkubus. Elk beeld hier is van dit ene specimen gemaakt, nooit van een vervanger.
