一窝深祖母绿色的晶体占据着黄褐色多孔母岩的中央，四周由较深的褐色岩石环绕，一如林间空地被树木围起。 透视石晶体粗壮而尖端陡峻，约十余枚，最大的接近一厘米，边缘还散布着一些更小的晶体；那绿是只有铜才能造就的饱和瓶绿色，在阴影凹处近乎墨黑，晶面转向光线时则炽烈生辉。
透视石是含水的铜矽酸盐，CuSiO3·H2O。 莫氏硬度 5 听来耐用，但三个方向的完全解理使它性脆：晶尖受碰会干净俐落地崩下一角，超音波清洗机更会毁掉它。 位于纳米比亚北部的楚梅布是本矿种的经典产地，而晶体仍留在原生晶洞母岩上的标本，正是收藏家追逐的类型。
