淡紫色晶体以层层交叠的扇形覆满这片贵州岩板，每一枚都是扁平的小矛，带着凿子般的尖端，彼此倾靠，直到整个表面看来如覆霜一般。 藏红花黄色的被膜填满它们之间的低洼处，其中数处呈柔软的粉状，而在镀层变薄的中央，一丛灰褐色的刃状晶体高高挺立。
石膏的化学式是 CaSO4·2H2O，是多数藏家所收藏的矿物之中最柔软的一种：莫氏硬度 2，单斜晶系，指甲即可划伤，随手擦拭便会失去光泽。 淡紫色调均匀地贯穿整片晶簇并不常见，因为大多数石膏呈无色、白色或琥珀色，而黄色被膜又为这件标本添上第二种颜色，全然无需任何抛光。 请干燥保存，但不要曝晒——石膏会缓慢失去结晶水，在炎热干燥的展柜中变得粉白。
岩板为 7.4 × 4.8 × 3.8 cm、90 g，不含底座，平放即可稳定。 这些照片中没有任何一处属于其他标本：所见即为所寄。
