这件拇指标本的中央有两片刃状晶体以接近直角交叉：一片垂直向上，末端参差劈裂；另一片横向伸出，像一根低垂的枝条。 晶面呈银灰色，泛着淡淡的蓝与古铜色晕彩，右侧则有乳白色的重晶石结壳紧紧堆叠上来。
重晶石 BaSO4 在湖南的锑矿脉中是辉锑矿的固定伙伴。 它结晶较早，硫化物随后穿其而生、覆其而长，所以这里的结壳是包裹着刃状晶体，而非垫在它们下方。 本件的辉锑矿呈板条状而非细针状，这种形态特别能展现它完美的侧向解理——而莫氏硬度仅 2，指尖一按就会在镜面般的晶面上留下痕迹，因此拿取时请只碰母岩。
标本小巧，4.6 × 2.0 × 1.3 cm，重 10 g，以白色黏土固定在此处所见的透明压克力方座上。 从顶端的劈裂处到每一个细节，这些照片拍的都是这一件标本。
