两条臂膀自共同的枝干扬起，张成一个宽阔的 V 形，各由成千上万颗熔接在一起的铜瘤与铜钩构成，缝隙之间可以看见天光通过。 金属已老化成温暖的砖红色，凹陷处更深，细小的白色晶粒攀附在洼处。 整体压扁到约一厘米半厚，因此它的举止更像开放的金属蕾丝，而不是一团实心的金属。
铜是少数几种能以未化合状态存在于地壳中的金属之一，结晶于等轴晶系；当它在狭窄的裂隙中生长时，会沿结晶方向分枝，正好产生这种树枝状的形态。 它很软，莫氏硬度 2.5 至 3，并略具延展性，因此一根被压到的枝条会弯折而不会折断。 请尽量少触摸——皮肤油脂会使包浆失去光泽，表面最好维持矿山交出来时的模样。
