湖北大冶的铜绿山是一处铜铁矽卡岩矿床，黄铁矿散落于晚期方解石毯上，正是它具代表性的面貌之一。 黄铁矿的化学式为 FeS2，莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5，而周围的方解石仅有莫氏硬度 3，因此结壳才是脆弱的部分；请保持标本板干燥，因为潮湿的存放环境正是硫化物最终崩解的原因。
