黄铜金色的黄铁矿挤满这块西班牙小板的表面，晶体一颗挨着一颗，几乎不留空隙。 细密的平行条纹横扫每一个晶面，在光线下聚成一道道窄光带。 金色变薄之处，清澈如水的石英晶体楔在缝隙之间，形态短粗而非柱状，一侧边缘还保留着一圈赭色岩石。
那些条纹值得用放大镜细看。 黄铁矿 FeS2 在生长时会在立方体晶面与五角十二面体晶面之间交替，两种晶形以细小的阶梯互相穿插，记录下每一次转换。 莫氏硬度 6 至 6.5，这种矿物虽硬却脆，金属光泽遇到潮湿的手指便会转暗，因此干燥的展示柜与干燥的双手，能让这片金色亮上数十年。
