About this specimen

Inner Mongolia pyrite with fluorite at 6.3 cm; a small cabinet piece. The supplier did not record a weight. Keep dry.

Pyrite grows as cubes, pyritohedra and octahedra with a brassy metallic lustre; Chinese pyrite is known for sharp, mirror-faced crystals.

Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.

Inner Mongolia's Huanggang and Chifeng districts produce fluorite, calcite, garnet and rhodochrosite in a lustre and clarity that set the modern standard for Chinese carbonates.

Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6.3 × 3.9 × 4.7 cm (2.48 × 1.54 × 1.85 in). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Every specimen here is photographed and catalogued individually before listing.
