About this specimen

Brass-yellow pyrite pushes out of this small cluster at every angle, each face ruled with the fine parallel lines pyrite lays down when cube and pyritohedron compete for the same growth direction. Colourless quartz prisms crowd in between, water-clear against all that metal, and the back of the piece darkens into a sooty, iron-stained matrix flecked with further metallic grains.

Pyrite is FeS2 at Mohs 6 to 6.5, hard enough to strike sparks from steel — the origin of its name, from the Greek for fire. The striations are an honest signature of natural growth: they alternate direction from one face to the next, something no polishing or treatment reproduces. Quartz is the usual companion in sulfide veins, and here it supplies the clear counterweight. The specimen is catalogued from Spain.

The cluster measures 3.6 × 2.8 × 3.3 cm and weighs 35 g. It is presented on the clear acrylic block visible in the image, seated on a small pad of green putty; this listing sells the specific piece photographed.

Frequently asked questions

Will I receive the exact specimen shown?

Yes. Every specimen is a single, one-of-a-kind piece, and the photographs show the exact item you will receive — never a stock photo.

Is this Pyrite natural?

Yes — specimens like this form naturally. As is standard in the trade, some pieces are gently cleaned or trimmed; we photograph the actual specimen and describe its origin and condition conservatively.

How is it packed and shipped?

Orders ship worldwide with fully insured, tracked delivery, carefully packed to protect fragile crystals. A display base is included.

Can I return it?

Yes — there is a 14-day return window.
