The Jeffrey Mine at Asbestos (now Val-des-Sources), Quebec, was a vast asbestos mine that became world-famous among collectors for the superb minerals from its rodingite pockets.
Minerals from an asbestos mine
Although worked for chrysotile asbestos, the Jeffrey Mine's altered rocks and veins hosted pockets of beautifully crystallised minerals, prized for their gemmy colour and aesthetic form.
Signature minerals
The Jeffrey Mine is the classic source of gemmy pink and orange grossular garnet, together with vesuvianite, diopside, prehnite and pectolite. Its grossular and vesuvianite are benchmark specimens for those species.
