The home of labradorite
Labradorite, the calcium-rich plagioclase feldspar famed for its blue-green "labradorescence," takes its name from the Labrador coast, where it was first described in the 18th century. The classic material comes from the Nain anorthosite complex, including Paul Island.
What collectors look for
Pieces showing strong, multicoloured schiller (labradorescence) are the prize, whether polished or as rough blocks flashing across a clean cleavage.
